Food for thought: Glucose

The importance of GLUCOSE for our brain!!...learning and memory??

well...it has been question of mine and probly many more out ther... how 2be not so forgetful n have more conc??particularly when studyin..o workin on sth?? d answer is..u muz eat!! any 1 who dun eat.. or skipping meal.. o on their strict diet.. for sure is losing 1 thing = ur brain 's function. well..its not tat w/o glucose our brain wont survive..juz tat it ll b lil retarded.. n hibernate while it uses ketone bodies as replacement. (for ur info, ketone bodies is the oni sources left for brain to work..either than tat.. ur brain cells die.. Researchers have long known that glucose fuels the brain, so now i hope all my friends ll know too...
The key ingredient is glucose, which boosts people's cognitive performance, according to psychologists Paul Gold, PhD, and Donna Korol, PhD, of Binghamton University, and Carol Manning, PhD, of the University of Virginia. In research described in a 1998 article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Vol. 67, p. 764S771S), they found that it particularly improves people's adeptness at tasks involving memory and attention.

In addition, there are discoveries that learning tasks quickly deplete the brain's glucose reserves (but they are in rat studies tho). well..rats do have brains rite?? What's more, they found that replenishing that supply with injections of glucose helped rats learn more. but later researchers do these researches on human..n found a similar pattern in college students, but only when the students tackled a harder prose passage than the elderly group.

( The Franklin Institute Online, 2004)

til here..questions ll appear...What foods boost performance on difficult learning tasks and tests? Some swear by protein-rich eggs and sausage, but according to recent brain research, potatoes, bread and other low-fat carbohydrates are a better bet. n low fat CHO??? what it means here it is not simple CHO. this means it is definitely not a chocolate bar (fat stalls the energizing effects of glucose), candy or any refined sugar. There are other reasons not to use sugar to boost cognition. The effective dose range is rather narrow, with too much glucose impairing, rather than enhancing, cognitive functions.
so now...how much is best? That varies with people's metabolism and with the amount of glucose in their brains when they ingest it.© 2000 American Psychological Association
hahah..tho..everythin muz b balance..kno wat u eat n how muchy u eat.. too high sugar level in our body paly many other roles and any imbalance may coz other complications.. so BALANCE is d key!!hahhha.. stilll...all d dearest dudes..for further detail...refers urself..i damn lazy wanna write ord!hehehe...http://www.fi.edu/brain/carbs.htm#brainpower...

sth 2 share!!! The cancer in your refrigerator...

There's a chemical additive that food manufacturers add to virtually all packaged meat products: breakfast sausage, picnic ham, hot dogs, bacon, bologna and many more. This chemical additive is used to give these meats a reddish color so they don't look putrid gray (which is the normal color of weeks-old packaged meat). By itself, this ingredient sounds completely harmless, but when you eat it, it forms highly carcinogenic chemical compounds known as nitrosamines.

oh...tis means i shud stop eating delicious sausage buns??no more bbqSSSsss...

These nitrosamines are such powerful cancer-causing chemicals that lab researchers actually inject rats with nitrosamines when they want to give them cancer in order to conduct experiments! Clinical studies that monitored children who consumed this ingredient shockingly revealed a quadrupling of brain tumors and a 700% increase in leukemia. (Preston-Martin, S. et al. "N-nitroso compounds and childhood brain tumors: A case-control study." Cancer Res. 1982; 42:5240-5.)
Another study that tracked the dietary habits of nearly 200,000 people for seven years revealed that the consumption of processed meats containing this ingredient caused a whopping 6,700% increase in pancreatic cancer (April, 2005, the University of Hawaii, lead researcher: Ute Nothlings.

Nitrosamines are so toxic that the USDA actually tried to ban them from all packaged meats in the 1970's, but the agency was overpowered by the corruption and influence of meat packing companies. So the ingredient is still 100% legal to use, even though it is highly carcinogenic.
When you eat this ingredient, it results in cancer-causing nitrosamines flowing through your entire digestive tract, ultimately leading to colon cancer as well as pancreatic cancer. Amazingly, this ingredient is listed right on the label!

What's the name of it? Sodium nitrite. It's listed right on the label of almost every packaged meat product you can buy. If you own any bacon, sausage, or lunchmeat product, check your refrigerator right now and see for yourself. You'll be amazed that this cancer-causing ingredient is in so many foods you've been buying for years!
if u doubt wat has mentioned above? pls search on9 for realiable website... journalsss
